At the Leelanau Historical Society (LHS), we are passionate about the power of museums to inspire, educate, and connect us to our past. Museums provide a unique opportunity to engage with art, culture, and history, and we want to share that passion with you. One of the many ways we do this is through reciprocal membership benefits with the North American Reciprocal Museum (NARM) Association program and the Reciprocal Organization of Associated Museums (ROAM).
Since 2022, LHS has been offering this exciting membership benefit, giving you access to hundreds of museums across North America. When you join LHS at the $100 level or above, you unlock entry to a diverse range of museums, from art galleries to historical sites, botanical gardens to science centers. NARM and ROAM provide fantastic opportunities to explore culture and history – near or far!
What Is NARM & ROAM?
NARM (North American Reciprocal Museum) and ROAM (Reciprocal Organization of Associated Museums) are two reciprocal membership networks offering benefits at participating museums. As an LHS member at the $100 level or above, you gain free or discounted admission to over 1,400 institutions across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
Easy to Use: Simply Present Your LHS Membership Card
One of the easiest things about being part of NARM and ROAM is how simple it is to use. All you need to do is present your LHS membership card at any participating museum and enjoy free or discounted admission. No need for extra cards or sign-ups—just show your up to date membership card and start exploring. This streamlined process makes visiting museums across North America a breeze.
Member and Staff Experiences with NARM & ROAM
Our staff and members have enjoyed many of the benefits offered by NARM and ROAM. Here are a few of their experiences:
- Dennos Museum Center, Traverse City, MI: A local landmark enjoyed by all staff, board, and members. The Inuit Art collection and the Discovery Gallery are sure to delight the whole family.
- Legion of Honor, San Francisco, CA: Our director recently visited this fine art using her NARM benefit. “We enjoyed the Mary Cassatt exhibit and the Rodin gallery, and being able to access the museum for free was a fantastic perk.”
- Vero Beach Museum of Art, Vero Beach, FL: A board member enjoyed free admission to this cultural arts facility on Florida’s Treasure Coast through NARM. “We were thrilled that our LHS Membership got us into this modern museum! They have some pretty cool sculptures on the grounds outside.”

Get Involved: Membership Renewal
As our membership renewal period approaches this spring, we encourage you to keep in mind the NARM and ROAM benefits available to members at the $100 level or above. This benefit gives you access to over 1,400 museums nationwide, while every dollar you contribute stays at the Leelanau Historical Society and supports our work preserving Leelanau County’s history.
