Museum Archives Internship
The Leelanau Historical Society is seeking a college student or emerging professional to assist with the ongoing digitization of our collection of historical photos, documents, and artifacts. The intern will also work on special projects including indexing historical records held by other county institutions and making accessible our oral history collection. No prior museum experience is necessary. Responsibilities will include:
- Archiving using PastPerfect museum software
- Collections care and artifact handling
- Photographing and/or scanning archival documents
- Research within the collection
- Oral history interviews and cataloging
- Greeting museum visitors and answering their questions
- Exhibit research, design, and installation
SCHEDULE/COMMITMENT
- 12 week internship beginning May/June 2022
- 18 hours per week
- $13/hour
- Some weekend hours may be required.
SKILLS REQUIRED
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Professional demeanor
- Experience using Microsoft Windows computers
- Well organized with attention to detail and ability to carry out tasks independently
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
